Warm water conditions on Cda Lake have had me on the sidelines as far as pike fishing goes lately. When the eater cools down they should pick up. That hasn't happened yet so I thought I would get in on the walleye bite on Banks Lake. I was on the water at 8:15. Went to one of my old spots and started getting small fish within about 15 minutes. I changed depths looking for bigger fish but that didn't help. The fish were in 32-36 feet of water. After releasing 9 smalleye and one smallmouth I relocated to a spot recommended to me by a friend. At least I think I was where he sent me. I immediately broke off a bottom bouncer, and one jig and got no bites within the first half hour, so I headed off to another location I used to find wallys in, years ago. The fish were there but again they were all small. I released another 9 walleyes and one smallmouth in about 2 hours. I would imagine if I had stayed in either one of these locations for a longer time, I could have caught 40-50 fish, but I was hoping moving around might pick up a bigger fish. I will go back next weekend and conentrate on these 2 spots and fish them for longer periodds of time to see if I can weed through the small ones to fins a bigger fish.
All fish were caught on Mack smile blades (orange or chartruese) and slow death hooks with a half of a night crawler. Water temps were low 70's. In the second location the fish were in 15-20 feet of water.

Thanks for the report. I have only been there one time, I fished around goose Island with mild success. Any suggestions on locations for a newbie? should I head up lake? I am going to take my Grandfather out on Saturday, any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Jesse,
I fished Banks twice this year. I like trolling along the weed edges, in fifteen to twenty feet of water, flat-lining crankbaits that look like perch, either natural or firetiger colors. Pick a shallower diver for the one closest to the weed edge (I use a shallow shad-rap); a medium diver straight behind the boat (a minnow Rap from Rapala in Hot Steel color); and, a deep-diver on the outside edge (a wiggle wart in brass/green or a deep-diving broken-back perch). After passing along the weededge, you will probably be reeling in a fish or two, so pull the other line and make a quick turn and reset the lures, keeping the shallow diver on the shore side. Keep the boat in about eighteen feet of water.

If the wind is blowing into a shoreline, troll parallel to that shoreline in the twenty foot depth. You can also anchor the boat in that same twenty foot depth and cast the crankbaits for the walleye if you find concentrations of them.
