This is a Tale of Two Lakes…

JoAnn and I got to fish one of our favorite lakes, Merwin, and as a bonus spent some time on Yale.
This report will be for Merwin.

We fished Saturday mid-morning, Sunday morning, and Monday morning. For us, it was tough fishing, with Sunday being the worst, a total skunk, no bites – ouch!

We ran four rods (until my Jared Johnson rod snapped in the downrigger, yikes). Corn and mealworms and lot’s of scent. Gang trolls off the downrigger balls rounded things out. We saw lot’s of fish on the fish finder and saw very few nets out. Saturday we caught two, and Monday we caught two dandy 14” fish early, which was a tease as after 6:50am our lines went dead.

I talked with a couple anglers at the ramp and they agreed it was tough, they “only” caught ten. Well, their secret was running gang trolls. I am willing to admit I generally see guys using gang trolls on Merwin do pretty good, but I’m just not interested in dragging all that gear around and not being able to enjoy the fight. We have plenty of fish in the freezer so I can focus on the fun side of things. That said, I obviously need to refine my techniques and do some tweaking to get my catch numbers back up.

Our fish we did catch were all deep, mostly 60-65 feet. We lost a couple in the mid forty feet range as well.

We did better at Yale so check out that report as well.

Kokanee fishing – it keeps a person humble!

If your dog was any more comfortable, he'd fall off the seat. Sorry to hear of tough conditions, but sometimes it's just as good to get away and relax on the water. :-)
