Continued from my last report...
We eventually got bored of catching trout and decided to find some Perch. Mostly because of the awsome fried perch that a friend fed our 30 person group. The bass fry this guy did last year was great, but perch is amazing! I cant believe Ive been throwing these things back for so long!
I was lucky enough to be invited to fish with him a few times, and we found a big school on our second outing.
I targeted perch on 4 separate outings and found them to be in 17ft of water right off of the weed bed. We did have to motor around quite a bit to find them, but once we did, we would pull in 20-30 in short order. most were 8-9 inches, but some 10-11. We came home with a couple of gallon freezer bags full of fillets.
We tied up drop shot or crappie style rigs with one or two 2/0 hooks. once we caught our first fish with a small jig, we cut it up for bait. A small chunk of flesh with the skin on was our bait, and would stay baited on our hooks for 10+ fish.
I did see a 3-4 ft tiger muskie finally, while paddle boarding. Chased him around on the board for while. Wasn't afraid of me in the slightest. Paddled back to camp, jumped in my boat, ran back out there, and threw a giant swim bait at him. He did follow it to the boat, at a distance. I swear that fish looked at me and rolled his eyes with annoyance. Wouldn't chase anything else I threw, and eventually slowly swam off to deeper water to avoid me.
