Lake Union is my home lake. I go here when I do not have time to go elsewhere. It is an interesting lake to fish. I find it best in the very early morning before it gets to busy with summer boat traffic. It has taken me a while to figure out the smallmouth here. The tend to run smaller than lake Washington with fish in the 13-16" range. I have only caught one fish over 16" this year. I hit the water at 5:30 AM air temps in the 60's and water temps at 74 degrees. I started off trolling to my usual spots. I put my lure in the water and before I cleared the weeds and let line out I had a fish on. Maybe 5 feet of line right next to the kayak. This happened twice today. I hit the Fremont bridge area and paddled over to Gas Works Park. Drop shotting and trolling a slow death rig with a Zoom Fluke in baby bass. No more fish. I switched up the trolling to a Shad Rap 07 in original crawdad. This is what they wanted. I caught close to 20 fish with 6 or so being in the 13-16" range. The big one going 16". A few perch and rock bass mixed in. I was off the water by 10 AM. I caught a 13" LMB too, this is the biggest I have caught on LK Union.
