I got a late start on Thursday and I wanted to kayak fish close to home. I decided to try Lake Union, having not fished it since the spring. Springtime the lake can be excellent for smallmouth bass.
Today, I started off casting crank baits around docks and weed beds which produced some nice smallmouth. I switched over to a drop shot worm and rubber crayfish set up and couldn't keep the fish off the line. I landed smallmouth, largemouth, rock bass, perch and even crappie. In all the years I've fished Lake Union and Lake Washington, I've never caught a crappie. Such pretty fish. My buddy informed me that the state record crappie was set back in the 50's at 4.5 lbs - caught out of Lake Washington.
