I was ready. I had the float tube, I knew my way, and luckily I had a nice conversation with a long time local flyfisher on the first leg of the trail. He explained that scuds were sampled ranging as large as 1", color periwinkle. That was interesting.

By the look of it, there are several inlet/outlets in the lake. The only significant one is the outlet, which I believe starts Liliwaup Creek. The others two are inlets, that are more or less drainages. I covered 2/3 of the lake with the float tube and I can tell you this-Watch out, it could be dangerous! The western side of the lake was logged long ago at the surface level of the lake. That means when the water rises, those tall stumps hang just under the water's surface like a mine. After I hit one or two stumps, I spent the rest of the day trolling around the lake sideways so that I could see the stumps!

Here's the deal: Most of the lake is very shallow. Those portions of the lake are covered with some kind of small Nymphea species (looks like Venezuelan water poppy). This makes up most of the margins of the lake and the majority of the eastern side of the lake. There are no stumps or logging debris in these parts, so you can kick away without looking backward for stumps. When you get into the deeper stuff is when you want to be aware. I landed 3 cutthroat out of these areas, on my own version of a prince nymph.

The outlet (Liliwaup) supposedly holds brookies of decent size. They were pretty spooky. Most (if they even were brookies) were holding close to the banks, under trees, and picking off terestrials (I think terestrials, splashy rises). Regardless, as I was backing out of that channel to head home for the night, I was digging in my flybox when I got a jerky pull on my line. By the time I got my hands on my line it was off. Damn! That could have been my brookie. Anyway, watch it when you are approaching that outlet channel. There are rows of chopped trees to pop your float tube on.
