I decided to try something new today, i arrived at the parking area for bear/ pinacle lake at 10:30am, first lake i arrived at was bear lake, a fairly large lake, very beautiful scenery, there wasnt tons of space on shore to flyfish, although there is a very nice area to launch an inflatable, i didnt bring one, so i decided to try pinacle instead.
The hike into pinacle isnt the easiest, nor the hardest ive done, its a fairly short hike in, but steep in places. I believe the trailhead is 2,700' and pinacle lake is 3,700' elevation. I would guess it is 3.5-4 miles round trip. There were 2 small ponds along the way, i stopped to fish the 2nd pond, no luck. I pressed on for another 1/4 mile and arrived at beautiful pinacle lake. There was 1 other person there taking photos, he told me he saw fish rise, and i started to get excited. First fly i tied up was a size 8 adams, a few casts after i started, i noticed a fish rising 50'down shore, so i relocated, sure enough a few more cast later i hooked into a very spunky rainbow that went airbourne and completely balistic once it was hooked, it put up a surprisingly long and genuine fight on my 3wt, it was 8 1/2" so certainly wasnt a big fish. About 10 minutes later i hook up with and land my next fish which was a 8" brook trout, not as spunky as the rainbow, but put up a fair fight. Few casts later i hook up with another fish, this time it got away, it looked to be a much larger brook trout of 11"-12", by this time i noticed the guy taking photos was taking photos of me fly fishing, he seemed excited when i would catch one. I didnt catch any other fish after about 1 hour of fishing, so i packed up and headed home, satisfied that i had caught 2 beautiful alpine trout, had a very relaxing day, very scenic area.

I've hiked there before and have lots of pictures of brooks swimming near the surface from that trip. Unfortunately it was just a hike and i didnt bring a pole. Been curious ever since how the fishing was.
