Dropped the kids off at school and back out to the lake. It got windy right as I pulled up, but died about 20 min later. Hardly any boats on the water which was unusual, but very welcome. Was marking fish in 80-90 FOW hooked one 30' down on the wire and lost another one at 19 pulls with a 2.5 oz sinker. The one I landed was 16 inches and fat. The biggest I've caught this year. Is it me or are the Kokanee in this lake far more difficult to catch this year than in past years?

the last several years have been this way. im wondering, if all the fry are fish food. and this accounts for the nice size of the kokes? which also means poor fising.

Now that you mention the fry... I caught two smaller kokes on Sunday and their bellies were packed full of baby fry. All about 3/8 to 1/2 inch long. Maybe you're right.

Kokanee are filter feeders. Supposedly, they do not eat anything but daphnia and plankton. I am not a scientist though. People use pink because the plankton reflect UV light that is in shades of pink, red and purple. So if they are eating fry maybe they are starving to death.

I've caught a lot of kokanee on spoons, I believe that they are a lot more of an opportunity feder then is thought. Bob R
