I got to the lake, launched, and tried to start the kicker. It wouldn’t start. I think it is the new to me gas tank. I opened the lid and closed it when I first got into the boat thinking the heat might have done something. I have a glass fuel filter on it and it was full of gas. With the old tank it only had a little bit of gas in it. BUT the big motor started up. Then I turned on the fish finder and it would find the position and I would press enter then in a minute the same screen would come back on. I tried to turn it off. It wouldn’t turn off. I unplugged it, plugged it back in and it did the same thing. Finally I got to the menu and did something…must have been right because it worked after that. I grabbed my sunglasses out of my bag and they were broke in half!
I went over to the south side of the lake once again in 46 feet of water. I tried to start my kicker again. Still would not start. My line was out by 6:30am. By 7:05 I had 2 kokes in the boat, then a third in about a half hour. The fourth was about 8am. There were not a lot of bites today for me. I only missed a few. One bite I hooked and then I thought as I was reeling it up that this must be one of the smaller ones that I have heard about, as it blasts out of the water a couple of feet from the boat. It had got hooked and came straight up faster than I could reel. It got off.
It really slowed down after that and I decided I would stop at 9. About 8:45 I moved out a little deeper to 48 feet and then decided to quit at 9:30. This is the one more cast syndrome. But I was almost out of chum and around 9:10 I swished the bucket of the last remnants. I sat down to see if I could get a bite and lo and behold the fifth kokanee was hooked and in the boat. 9:15am I was done.
I caught these fish from 20 feet to just off the bottom. Bottom was first in the morning and then they came up to 20 and then after a bit went back down. I was using Wannafish A Lures Mini Still-fishing spinner (red)with live maggots and eggs.
I put everything away and looked at the fuel filter for the kicker. It wasn’t full. I tried it again and it started. So I ran it to the north side of the lake and it ran fine. I turned it off and then ran the big motor back to the launch. Bummer I can’t trust my motors with a pink season coming.
The water was up to 70 and we have had and are having a mild heat wave with over 7 days of 80’s and above air temps.
