Great couple of days on the lake with my buddy, explored some new areas of the lake, Caught two over 5lbs and a bunch in the 3-4lb range found a couple giants on beds all by themselves, but it was too windy to fish em . Going out early Sunday to hopefully get a shot at em!

FYI it is "not good" to target bass on their spawning beds

I appreciate your concern, however I am an experienced and informed angler with high ethics. I will lawfully fish however I please. That being said I rarely target beds, usually only bigger females.

Awesome fish, congrats.
And that is where catch and release comes in, let the fish go right away and back to the bed she'll go. And no, I don't 'hunt' beds, but if I happen to see a bed, and if there's a big fish on one, I just can't help giving it a go for a little bit.

There's nothing at all ethical about targeting big spawning females on their beds and I'm sure every true experienced and informed angler would agree. What is the differance between that and targeting a salmon or steelhead on their nest??

First of all fishing for salmon on beds is illegal. Also their flesh is rotting and a slight difference could be smallmouth aren't an endangered species the last time I checked. Also smallmouth are considered the most resilient freshwater fish in North America.

Well go ahead do it just because it's legal then, but doesn't make it right. Any ethical fisherman would agree that it is not fair chase to stress a female bass on her nest.2 cents

Headed to Whatcom later today. What's the meal ticket for these smallies - plastics, cranks, spinners or??? Thanks

There's still some fish spawning but I would target points with some cranks, I haven't had a lot of success with spinnerbaits yet a lot of small fish on docks right now so I haven't been fishing em
