We decided to stop by Potholes Friday on the way home from Banks. We got a late start but fished till almost dark. Potholes water level is the highest we have seen. Its pretty much full to the brim and most of the dunes are under water. Water temps were in the 70's everywhere we stopped.
We talked to the Mardon folks before we launched and were assured that trophy bass were just waiting to be caught on pretty much every square inch of the lake but especially around the Mardon docks. Walleye were also jumping in the boats in droves. Pretty much the same story we got from the Coolie PlayLand folks when we got to Banks :)
We started up in the dunes around 10AM after LM bass with some success. One decent 18" LM and one skinny 18" keeper walleye and several dink LM but it was sloooow fishing. Around noon we decided to try along the rip rap at the dam. We started near the Mardon docks and worked our way over to the island and tried all around it with several dink SM and a couple in the 1 - 2 pound range. Everyone we talked to was catching dinks but good fish were rare.
The ramp at Mardon was nuts because of the holiday weekend starting so we launched at the free ramp just down the lake. It was also very crowded but we managed just fine. Talked to several people when we pulled out late that day and every one agreed it was slow fishing for bass but some folks reported decent walleye catches in all the usual places.
