Friday was spent periodically checking in cabins for the guys and taking a few spins on the lake while 2 by 2 they starting arriving so by about 5 pm most of our guys showed up. After getting situated everyone was anxious to get out fishing so we took off in our boats to see what we could rustle up.
Not long after that the wind pushed everyone back to the docks so a few fish were caught, mostly by Nick and Bob who were trolling fly lines and would eventually be the masters for the weekend on getting these fish who had suddenly got lock jaw.
Saturday- our little derby usually starts at 7 am but the wind made us change our minds as it was really blowing to tune of white caps on the water. Finally about 10 things calmed down enough to were we could say it was time to hit the water! We all took off some of us anchoring and still fishing while others tried trolling~ I had Greg with me who was in my boat last year with his son and we ended up taking biggest fish and 1st limit. Well this year that was not happening as even though the wind had died down, I couldn't keep us anchored so gave in to trolling and managed 1 fish before we went in at 3:30 for a bite to eat.
Now Nick Hudson and grandpa Bob Hough were just tearing it up on his hand tied flies and Nick had 3 fish by the 5pm dinner bell. After a nice time of food and fellowship others headed back out but I was done and had to start packing up as my 9 days in Easter WA were coming to an end. Soon I got a text from Nick that he had limited out and they were killing it out there on the flies!
Well I knew if I could get all packed tonight, I could focus my Sunday on at least sort of redeeming myself and my guest on my boat so got to bed with my head spinning of ideas of how to accomplish that!
Report to follow~ see you on the water!
