Launched my boat, for a try at bass, fairly early as the sun was just coming over the tree tops. Fishing conditions were almost ideal with no wind. The water surface was as smooth as glass. For a top water aficionado, like myself, it was perfect. Caught several bass all around the lake but to my disappointment, nothing big. Most of the fish were under a pound. Missed a strike that looked as if it was a large fish. I have fished this lake several times over the years and have never caught a smallmouth bass.. There are supposed to be some in the lake but you couldn't prove it by me. I also have never heard any first hand reports of smallmouth. An old timer was fishing from the access as I arrived and he told me of an eight pound bass caught from the bank. Said the bass angler gave him the fish. He ate it. Shame to kill a large fish like that. A big bass is too valuable a resource to enjoy catching only once. The concrete Plank boat launching ramp has quite a drop-off over the last plank. I choose to use the left side of the ramp to launch but would not recommend that to folks without a four wheel drive. All in all it was a great day on the lake with lots of sun, no wind, nice scenery including a big eagle perched on a tree on the island -- And enough action to keep it interesting. All my bass were caught on a floating minnow lure. Tight lines.
