First report for Lake Quinault this year, beautiful day on the lake, lake surface was like glass for most of morning. Dollies were hard to keep off the hook, only caught 2 cuts as compared to 8 (!!) dollies, lack of fishing pressure has resulted in a large amount of sizable dollies, great fights from numerous fish in the 3 to 5 lb range. Glad to thin them out, these fish are VICIOUS predators, we find up to 10 or more salmon and trout in their guts when cleaning, some up to 8 inches! Cuts were candy apple red inside, great eating fish, althogh we stopped after limiting on dollies to avoid damaging more dollies while chasing cuts. This beauty will make it into the smoker, yum! Only 3 or 4 other boats on the lake in the morning, by 11:00 A.M. we had the whole lake pretty much to ourselves. One of the nicest days for weather I can remember. We had doubles on the trout and then on as pair of dollies, makes for exciting times on light gear! Bob R

isn't this lake off limits to those that aren't Native American?

No, the lake is open to all that purchase a fishing license and boat permit from the Quinault tribe. That being said the lake was closed to all but tribal fishermen (who RARELY bother to fish it) the year before last. It opened again in July last year. Regulations and info on obtaining boat permits available online. Bob R
