Got on the lake about 6:45 am Labor Day morning. The clerk at Lake Cushman grocery where we got the hot coffee & donuts said the lake fishing has been terrible, but we tried the usual anyway. Air temp was about 62F, water temp was?? warm on top. Had a light wind that blew into heavy wind. Foggy at the start.
We trolled in 100 feet of water on south west side of lake, straight across from resort. This is only 20 yards off the beach here.
We used pop gear, snubbers and wedding ring lures tipped with maggots. We let out 100-120ft of 8lb line with 2-1/2 oz of lead on the trolling rudder. Got our first hook up on a kokanee at 7:00 in front of the dock with the big stairs. (Kokanee always seem to be in this spot. Maybe it is the small streams and the deep canyon of the old river channel intersecting.) Landed three more fish all 8"-10". The wind kicked up so we would motor west and let the wind drift us across the school. Snagged bottom on one line then caught fish on the other while we were trying to free it up. Got blown off the lake at 9:00 AM with enough fish for breakfast.
Watch for the tackle grabbing trees that are in about 80 feet of water. Look for the schools on the depth finder and position your downrigger to get them. (My little boat doesn't have a rigger so we put on lead, count the pulls, watch the line angle and the trolling speed.)
