I started fishing close to 6:00am, I think.
I trolled to the south side of the lake, longlining Wannafish A Lure Still-fishing spinners.
I anchored in 43 foot of water and threw out some chum and started to still fish. Which means, cast out, and let it sink to the bottom then reel (or strip) it in a little at a time. I had a fish on but lost it. It is going to be a great day, fish on first cast. But that was it. No bites…I used half of the chum I brought with me. I thought I would troll over to another area to try and see if I could catch anything. I hooked and lost another fish this way.
I texted Ron (green drift boat) to ask him where I should fish this early in the season? He just got to the launch but said the same areas just not as deep. So I trolled waiting for him to park and then I went over near him. I was in about 40 foot of water.
It was fast and furious for him and it was my day to miss fish. As he was to leaving I asked if he had any chum left because I was almost out. He gave me his and I used it all up to get my limit by 10am. I lost 5 and got 5 in the boat.
It was a cloudy start to the morning but the sun was brightly shining when I left. Later in the day I went by a digital temperature display that said 77. There was only a slight breeze and the surface water temperature was 59.
