Has it really been six months since the season closed? Couldn't wait for this weekend. Fishing withdrawals.....
Never care for the crowds of opening day, so usually go the next. Good air temps, but much stronger winds than forecast. Geez, on the main lake had the trolling motor on level three much of the day just to combat the winds and haul us around on a troll. Water temps 56-57 degrees. Air about 55, mostly cloudy, and winds -10-18mph.
Normally, on opening weekend we only catch trout - expect trout. So we trolled the trout-route and only P. scared up a small one. We almost never get into the bass until late May or June, so was more than surprised when our next eight fish were bass and all but two, could have been eaters/keepers. All nine fish went back to grow bigger and perhaps catch another day.
For braving the not-so-ideal elements, it was a good day with P. catching three fish (2 bass, 1 trout), K. three (all bass) and me three, (all bass.)
After getting chilled we found a quiet cove and fired up the barbecue and ate hot dogs and P's homemade cake....now that's fishing in style.
