My son Hunter and I got to Benson Lake at about 6:30am on Sunday morning. It was rainy and windy, but we found a nice area out of the wind on the far side of the lake and tied up to a submerged tree. We used the favorite power egg/power bait combo and quickly limited on fish in about an hour. Three of this years triploids were caught, along with one very large fish that was weighed at Verle's Sports Center, 7.25lbs and 30 inches long. It looked like a steelhead with very little depth to it. The fish jumped about 5 times, got caught in the submerged tree that we were tied to, but still didn't get away. I caught him on my 5.25' Fenwick rod with 4lb Ultragreen main line, 4lb Stren XT leader, and a size 12 golden eagle claw treble hook. Little rods can catch big things if you are patient. We'll be back again next weekend.
