Spent a beautiful Monday out on Coldwater Lake in the blast zone of Mount St. Helens chasing Rainbow Trout. This population of Rainbow Trout is self-sustaining and has been since they were introduced over 20 years ago. Anglers can expect to encounter a variety of age class and size fish all of which are feisty beautiful fish with large untattered tail fins.
I found a total of 9 hungry trout for the day including several pushing 15" or more inches. Fish were largely concentrated on the top in 20-40' of water. Green sonic roostertails and F4 flatfish in rainbow trout patterns trolled at 1.5 to 2 mph were the ticket for the day. All lures had single point barbless hooks with the barb removed as is required.
If you are looking for quiet lake free of motor noise to enjoy some fishing then I highly recommend dragging your drift boat, kayak, or canoe out of the garage and spending the day at this special and unique lake.
