Got to american around Noon , fished the main island for about an hour with jerkbaits and cranks no luck. Headed over to the bank where the VA hospital is located and within 20 minutes hooked into a smallie on a swim jig weighed 3.12lbs Fish was in about 5 feet of water . Only fish of the day, but I will take it to start off the season! Side note, water was about a degree warmer on the VA side of the lake. I was reading 50-51 degrees

Good fish. They are getting shallower, and very spooky, at least the ones I've seen are spooky. Haven't caught a shallow fish yet, but I'm still checking they out. :-)
