I spent the day fishing with two of my buddies, Glenn and Jim, on Potholes. We drove from Spokane and were on the water by 0730. It took till late afternoon but we ground out a 24 fish limit of eyes with the largest at just over 23" and the average size of 19-21". Our total catch of eyes for the day was about 37 with a dozen or so jumbo perch to add to the stew pot. I am not going to say how we were so successful, those two would not be happy. We set a pattern after about an hour and a half of messing around and that pattern lasted all day, although we did move around a lot. Sometimes we were near the herd of other boats and sometimes not. I did take one for team, I ended up with a treble hook in my face near the jaw line while netting one of my buddies walleye. The fish ended up in the boat and all it took was a little yank to get the barb out. Last year I got a black eye from a jig in the face and I am sure that will not be the last hook I have to remove from some place on my body.
Go Pack. I bet that game Sunday was bitter sweet for a Packer fan Sunday. I fished with AJ'sdad on Saturday. It was our first time fishing Potholes together for Eyes. I was skunked but had a blast. Looking for my first 10 pound eye to release. I would love to meet up some day with a fellow Packer fan.
Most of the other boats we talked too had a pretty tough day on Saturday. It took us a while to find a specific pattern but once we did it worked all day. Potholes has definitely been getting hit hard recently and I was wondering the same thing on how it will hold up in the long run. The one thing the Walleye fishery has going for it is the amount of perch as a forage base; Potholes has a ton of jumbo perch in it which apparently makes for some of the best, size wise, eye fishing on the east side. We fish the Spokane Arm a lot and the Potholes eyes are much thicker and heavier than the Roosevelt fish.
Packernut, sounds like a plan in the making to me. I sure some where down the line we should be able to meet up for a day of fishing somewhere. I am hopefully about to buy a new boat as my current one is getting long in the tooth.
i m concerned the same for roosevelt saturday i was in the middle of 30+ boats all trying to take their 16 walleye home, and its only the beginning of february
Juggalo. Really!! 30 plus boats! You must of been talking about the poker run. Where do you see 30 boats in one area other than the basin when the Kokanee are hitting? most walleye guys aren't there for there limit. We're there for a few a eaters and the hopes of catching a 10 plus pounder. I live 5 minutes from the Lincoln launch and fish quite regularly and never see 30 plus boats anywhere on Roosevelt.
well tonto I dont know what your motivation for trying to call me out is,but your attempt at being confrontational is juvenile.where I fished on saturday may not have technically been on lake roosevelt but all reports for the area in question are under the title spokane confluence and there were in fact 30+ boats out and I did over here several boats talking about the liberal limits and filling there coolers due to the number of people in said boats .i sat in line behind at least 8 boats at the launch at 7am and was surprised to find at least that many already at the spot when i got there.your lack of information does not make me a liar it makes you ignorant to things going on in your own backyard
Tonto and juggalo! Take it easy man, nobody is perfect and this is just a site to trade information-not start a fight.
So lets all go hook up some fish and have a great time doing it.
Peace out. Harry
