Headed out to the Potholes today with the Packernut to help him drown his sorrows from his beloved Packers, comming up just a little short against the Seahawks.
We met up with lonnie197272 at the launch and he was kind enough to give us some pointers and even a hand full of his blade baits to try.
It was great fishing with him and his partner. Lonnie is a very knowledgable walleye guy and he certainly put us on the fish we got today. We only managed to put 3 wally's in the boat but they were all beautiful, healthy fish, with one at 21" and the other two at 25" with the biggest weighing in at 7lb 11ozs.
We only managed to get 3 but we got the opportunity to see the experts at work while the put 10 fish in the boat.
Thanks again Lonnie. We'll do it again sometime, and I owe you a pike trip. :) It's always great to meet nice people from this website.

Rest assured I will be going back to pike. Back in the day I was exclusively a walleye fisherman, then about 25 years ago I discovered pike. I don't eat much fish so I'm in it for the fight and the pike win that hands down. I do however enjoy walleye fishing and plan to do more of it this year.

How were you fishing the blade baits? We tried jigging with them for the first time on Monday this week along Medicare beach with no luck. I later heard someone saying to troll with them, but they are pretty heavy and we could not get any action with them unless we were moving what seemed like way to fast for Walleye fishing. We ended up with three in the 21"-22" range using bottom bouncers and worms. It was pretty slow for us though.

This was my first time fishing blade baits. Per instructions from lonnie197272, we casted the blade bait out, let it sink to the bottom, then gave it a firm upward jigging motion. We let the bait fall on a tight line and could feel the fish pick up the bait on the fall. Hope this helps. I'm certainly no expert on this method of fishing but by the end of the day I felt like I had the technique figured out pretty well. Now I just need to get back there and try it some more.

Thanks! We were just doing simple vertical jigging. Will try that technique next time out!

What brand of the blades were you using and what size? Thank you for sharing!

The baits were made by lonnie197272 and they were small ones.
