Got on the water a little before noon. It
was overcast, upper 60's, steady wind from the south until around 5:30,
when it shifted from the north, like it often does. The water was 57
degrees and clear. Not a bug in sight. No caddis, no midges, no
ants...a couple callibaetis were spotted. We threw a lot of the regular
wet patterns that typically work and fished the coves near the middle of
the lake and caught just a few fish. The biggest was 16" brown trout
that took a black seal bugger. Around 7pm winds calmed and a scattering
of fish came up for some brown and olive midges that might have been as
big as size 24. My partner's Fishin Buddy showed fish down on the
bottom all over the lake. If the depth was 14' they were at 14'; if it
was 43', they were at 43'. So it goes.
