I hiked up to Rachel lake last weekend, which is a hike I've always wanted to do. It is a fairly long trail and the last section is quite steep and rough. Anyways, I got to the lake around noon and saw a few fish feeding at the surface and was hopeful I would have good luck. Well, fishing was terrible. I paddled all around the lake and didn't see or feel any indication of fish besides about 5 rings or splashes, most of which didn't look like they were made by very large fish.
There are supposed to be cutthroat in here, but I fished all around the lake and across it at different depths and with different sized and colored lures and was totally skunked. Usually cutthroat are fairly easy to catch with lures, I think that there are only a few fish left in this lake and it is in serious need of restocking!
I fished the stream on the drive out and it looks like a high-use area in the summer, but I had it all to myself and did manage to catch two small ones before leaving for home.
