Hit the lake at about 10am with my son. I ran pop gear with a spoon and he ran a Blue Fox spinner. I reeled in a decent size crappie within 15 minutes and decided to use it as an opportunity for my son to practice with the net...he didn't do so well and the fish got away. As I get back on course with the boat he get a hookup and lands a crappie...that had a hole in it's mouth where it had recently been hooked. He swears it's the one I had just hooked.
He says he has a fish and shortly after it jumps behind the boat...rainbow on! He reels it in and it's fighting pretty good. As he gets it close to the boat it dives under the boat and his pole is bent to the water. I finally net it and he says that was the most exciting fish he's caught. Nice size rainbow, 14", with good pink flesh. He landed another crappie, then we just had a few nibbles. Not a bad few hours to spend on a nice October day.
