I went to Moses Lake to watch my father-in-law, Larry Ellestad, get inducted into the ML Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Hall of Fame, but every trip over there always involves fishing because we both love the sport so much. Last week he braved the wind and waves in the mighty Lund Pro-V to catch 11 walleyes all day. We were on the water around eight. By 8:30 we were into all kinds of fish. I caught a small eye and a decent largemouth on blade bait, and then the in-laws doubled on a couple of 19" walleye. I switched to a bottom bouncer and a home made smile blade/slow death rig and caught walleyes with them until we had to leave at noon. We kept our limits and threw back probably as many. We also caught several lmb, perch, a big bluegill and a bullhead. We used gold, chartreuse, and black smile blades and perch colored bead patterns trolled 1.0 to 1.1 mph. I had a four foot leader behind a one ounce bottom bouncer. We caught fish from five to twenty five feet deep where the main lake meets the dunes area. I even had a fish hit my lure on the surface as I netted a fish for Larry. I reeled up in case his fish ran to my side of the boat and left the lure floating at the surface. After netting his fish I turned around to drop my line out and a walleye was on my lure swimming in circles. I have never had a walleye do that to me. At one point there were 30 boats in the general area. We saw lots of other fish caught. The three of us have some good days in the past, but not one this good in a really long time. Our biggest was 24" and the smallest kept was 14. Threw back a lot of 8 to 13 inch fish.
