After a slow bite on Wapato, I headed over to Roses, and as I was coming into view of the lake it was glass smooth. NICE, but when I got to the launch the water was chocolate colored. Hmmmm I thought, what has happened here. OH well, out into the lake I go and I put on a silver spoon (same one that I used earlier on Wapato), and a Black crappie beaver. Slightly larger profile than usual for me, but wanted to cause a little more water displacement for the lack of water clarity. Fished along the usual weed lines and didn't pick up anything until I slowed the presentation down to a crawl. I did however switch to the 1/64 oz. jig head with a glitter body, and twitched the presentation along real slow like, and the crappie seemed to like that. No yellow perch, but lots of sub keeper bluegill and pumpkinseeds. After seeing "clumps" of muck floating on the surface and noticing a foul odor to the water, I'm wondering if the Lake is experiencing a fall turn-over??? Anyway, a mess of fish and got off the lake around 4:30 or so, and called it another good day on the water. Tight lines and sharp hooks all.

SO Sorry, My BAD. They even tasted like crappie. Must have made a typo when selecting species. CRAPPIE it should have been.
Thanks afk and FC, Crappie aren't the flashy brutes like the salmon, or coveted after like the Large Mouth Bass, but growing up in the south, the crappie holds some nostalgia for me with memories of fishing with a parent in "skeeter" ridden areas. LOL.

I've caught enough salmon and steelhead to literally last a lifetime. I still like playing 'em once in a while, but I prefer spiny rays on light line, or the real heavies on not so light line. Those categories are close together, so easy to do. Even carp taste like crap pie...
