Went to Magnussen in a gale. Well, that's an exaggeration. But enough wind to be highly annoying, and definitely prevent me from going out in my rubber raft. Apparently my failure to find the alleged perch at Magnussen Park the other evening was a timing issue. I went out there Monday from about 7:30 to noon, and yes, it is swarming with perch. Although almost all small. I caught 20 or 30 perch, mostly 5-6 inches, 1 bluegill (first ever!), and 1 rock bass, and threw back all but 4 perch 8 inches+

I had almost no luck with the bobber - lots of strikes, but only 1 hookup. Mostly from worm on bottom within 15 feet of dock, since my arm was hurting from casting. I caught 5 or 6 perch simply letting worm straight down under dock. I did find that perch are willing to bite most anything, but not quite anything - big grub for bass? Yes. Little white crappie jig grub cast and retrieved? Yes. But a yellow grub? Even perch have standards.

Tried casting from shore. No bites on plastic worm, or bobber. Nightcrawler on bottom I got another perch and another rock bass, and a few more hits unknown. Worm on bottom highly problematic anywhere in area due to weeds being so think. Lost my 1 ounce round weight twice. Was casting 12 pound test with weight attached via 6 pound test.

I was hoping for crappie or bluegill, but no such luck. May try down by UW a few times in next few weeks. Would be exciting to catch bluegills, simply as I've only caught 1 ever.
