We went to Lake Quinault for one day this holiday weekend, weather reports were shakey for saturday and tuesday, (a day off this week for Melanie) so we forgot about camping and hit one day, Labor Day. Lake was windy with small whitetcaps when we arrived (8:30 a.m.) but settled down to a gorgeous morning, mostly flat as glass. All fish were taken on downrigger but we had two doubles when Melanie would "be up" and upon handing off the rod to her I pop the other rod off and reel like mad to clear the way for her fish when WHAM, I hook up! Twice this happened! We managed to land both fish both times , Melanie was sure I had hooked her fish, I was sure it was a separate fish. Our dog Hamza had a great day, the smallest Dolly is his.5 cuts between 16 and 12 inches and 5 Dollies between 1 and 3 lbs.Prob. one of our last days on the lake, Chehalis River is open for Coho and chinook jacks so we will brine some herring and put together our spinner bag for next weekrend. Hopefully rain will bring some in. There were a handful of boats in the lower river when we drove by on our way home.Bob R

Nice looking Dolly! How do they taste compared to Salmon or Trout? I know that Lakers can be quite good.

They are excellent eating, like all our fish they are bled out at boatside and put on ice right away. Most of the folks that lomplain about the taste or texture of Dollies or lakers don't bother doing this, we have seen fish after being dragged around on a stringer all day in 60 or 70 degree water, totally ruined fish.We barbecue, bake, or deep fry dollies. they are very fat laden so smoking can take a while but still good. Thanks for comments.
