I left Larsen and about 10am was at Phantom.

I dont know much about this lake, other than that it is a pain in the butt to get your boat into.

I tried half a dozen spots ... casting with bobber and jig, casting a lure, casting a big fake worm, and sitting some nightcrawlers on the bottom. I was hoping for crappie, or bass, or whatever ... and what I got, just as previous posters have suggested, was perch. And one tiny bass that went for the crappie jig. And perch there are in gobs, in certain spots. I was getting constant bites on the nightcrawlers in some spots, and in others nothing. Seemed about 20 feet deep the perch stopped biting. I think they were also what was after my plastic worm in one particular location, as I got a ton of bites but no hookups. And the weird thing was, in certain parts of the lake, no perch biting, where others I could catch 20 per hour.

I dont know if there is anything but perch in this lake, but the pic shows the 6 I kept, 8-9 inches. the other 30 or 40 I caught were under that size so I threw back. The biggest one in the pic was the only thing to bite in what I estimate to be about 20 feet of water.

The constant action in certain spots was fun, but I'd really like to catch something other than perch.

I'm so tired of not knowing what's going on that I ordered a depth finder.

There was one summer 6 years ago that I would fish Phantom every single week. I would fish on the dock with a bobber/worm and catch perch. Besides the constant perch action, I would also catch tiny largemouth bass like the one you did, which I always released back. Considering that was 6 years ago and the fact that this lake seems to provide a great habitat and food source, I would assume those bass are fairly large now.
