On Friday after I bumped into missafish at Larsen, I gave my rubber raft its first trial run. Missafish drove over and pointed out where he thought I should go, based on what he remembered from years ago. In the end I didn't really get to do what he suggested. I learned a lot about my raft, but ended up wasting a lot of time.
To make a long story short, I rowed all the way to the far corner, then rowed all the way back, then was tired so I stayed on the dock side of the lake. I was out there from 10 to 5, although mostly fishing ... let's say noon to 5.
When it came to actual fishing, I spent some time over in the SW corner by the first private docks. I was fishing hybrid crappie setup - translucent jig, half a worm, on a bobber. I ended up with 3 perch, one 7 inches or so, other both about 5 inches. I also tried a worm on the bottom in what I would estimate was 15-20 feet of water. No bites with that method.
But the wind in a rubber raft with no motor is super annoying. I could anchor, but it would spin me back and forth making casting into particular areas difficult. So eventually I rowed back to the north side of the lake to get out of some of the wind. Back to the jig/piece of worm on bobber method. Caught the bass ... ok let's be honest, a minnow, in the picture.
Mostly what I caught was a hellacious sunburn, which really sucked having to wear long clothes Saturday and Sunday in the heat.
I intend to be back to this lake in the future.
