Great catch. Glad to see the little kid in on the action. My boys are working some now so I don't get to enjoy this with them as much. Have not seen your boat out there. We have been doing great on the far end of the lake. What part have you been fishing?

Mostly the western end but you need some luck to be ontop of the fish when the bite goes crazy and then stay there (or have a lot of friends on the lake that share info). The pockets of activity have been more localized than previous years when if you just showed up with a chrome dodger and didn't go too fast the whole lake would do well. Some days have been good out in the deep water in the middle that I had never fished before. Other days the same spot is dead and need to find them elsewhere.

That type of over harvest is classic from someone that used to or still does live on the east side of Lake Washington, are you trying to get a cameo on Yukon men?

It's not an over harvest. It is less than the allowable limit set by the state of Washington and what is needed by the ecosystem. Around 90K sockeye returned to Lake Wenatchee this year which smashed all previous returns since record keeping began.

The spawning grounds in the White and Little Wenatchee Rivers have a carrying capacity much less than that quantity of fish. There just isn't enough gravel for all the fish to use which results in the redds being dug up by later spawning fish and poor survival the following spring. WDFW would have preferred a greater harvest but the length of the bite each day and physical limits of how many fish/boat can be hauled in just doesn't favor that.

Why do you think the lake opened at a historically early date of July 19th? Why did it open with a limit of 6 fish/angler? Why did Chelan PUD give up on hatchery sockeye?
