I made the journey from Silverdale to Moses Lake to show my dad and our friend how to use the new downriggers he (our friend) bought for his boat. He wanted to make a trial run before heading out to the Columbia River for some salmon. I showed them how to rig them and use the clips and away we went. We trolled a dodger/wedding ring combo on one and original floating rapalas on the other. We also had a lead core line rod out with a needle fish. However, we couldn't buy a bite. We trolled the area near the wasteway and the whole eastern bank from Medicare Beach to the mouth of Crab Creek. We finally caught a nice smallmouth around noon. We also saw another boat catch at least a five pound rainbow. He was trolling a crankbait. By 12:30 it was 90 degrees and getting hotter. We were going to try walleye fishing after an hour of downrigger practice, but we forgot the bottom bouncers.
