I recently made a trip to Lake Mattoon in Ellensburg to try for a
some of the Triploid trout planted there. My wife and I got into town Monday
May 15 about 3pm. After checking into a local motel we then made our way
over to the lake. We found it was not very crowded. I think there were about
10 people fishing on the lake at the time we got there. Mattoon is a small
lake and you can easily see all the way around it. There is a road that goes
around 2/3 of the lake and you can simply pull up most anywhere and fish. My
wife was on her first fishing trip and she really enjoyed the experience. We
began fishing with mostly power bait and we soon began getting bites. We
landed 3 nice trout between 4pm and 7pm. They were about 15 to 16 inches and
weighed about 1 1/2 lbs. The next morning we began fishing at 6am and fished
till noon. We both limited out on 8-12 inch fish but we did not get any more
of the big ones. The fish were all in beautiful shape and we had a very
enjoyable experience.
