My friend glen and i decided to do the barclay lake/stone lake/eagle lake hike. We both had rafts, gear water etc. The first 2.2 miles to barclay were easy. We stopped and fished barclay for 20 minutes then pressed on. Within that time my friend caught 2 small bows, (released) after another 1/4 mile down the lake, we found the trail to stone/eagle lake. Immediately the trail became very steep, we gained 1300' elevation in 1.3 miles, then we arrived at stone lake. Packed down and fished it. My friend hooks up immediately on his tenkara rod/fly i did as well on my 3 weight both cuttbows, stone lake is a small pond maybe 2.5 acres and 15 ' deep at its deepest point. He caught 3 i caught 2 before we left, then we pressed on the last .7 miles to eagle lake. We got there blew up our rafts launched and i trolled 1 pass to the end of the lake and back and caught 5 8'-9' cutthroat on a brown wooley bugger, my friend caught and released 7 on a castmaster, packed up and headed down by 6:15 off the mountain by 8:30. Brutal hike, the steep part includes boulder fields and one could get lost very easily if they weren't experienced. I wouldn't recommend this hike unless your in great shape and are experienced hiker.

Thanks for sharing. I'll bet it was a little cooler at those elevations.

It was indeed a little cooler up there, that was part of the reason i chose to hike into an alpine lake rather than fishing the lowland fisheries this weekend.
