First day on WB Martha lake was a good one! I decided to try new waters after spending most of my time recently at lake Cassidy where I have had great luck with small pan fish.
I arrived at Martha around 3pm and decided to row the lake and cast a bobber worm at the shore as I went but had no luck for the first hour or more. I then headed back to the west end of the lake trolling a worm behind my pontoon. I stopped in the middle of the lake to talk to an older gentleman trolling for trout if he had any luck as I had not yet. And speak of the trout, a big hit almost rips my pole out of my lap and in the drink but my cat like reflexes saved the day! The gentleman smirked and trolled off saying something about already catching his limit, and I got to play with my third trout on the year.
I continued to row and troll for the next hour but no luck. Finally at the far west end of the lake I noticed some guys catching perch. I of course got RIGHT next to them smiled, dropped down my worm 10-12 feet and BAM! One after another the fat perch just kept nailing my worm as I pulled it off the bottom. I kept only the largest and released all the dinks. The sun started disappearing behind the trees and I decided to wrap up a great day on the water at Martha. I gave my experience a 4 because of the surge of perch hits at the end of the day. Best part was the Eagle swooping down just 10-20 feet from out boats and picking perch from the water! Had a great day, ill be back!
