Lake Washington PSA Derby Day!
My son Neal, a.k.a. Dawg 'Bone (on account of the fact that he's a trombone player in Husky Marching Band), was out with me for our annual Dad's Day excursion.
Weather was cloudy with threat of rain and breeze was blowing almost from the start. On the water at 0515 and headed for the SE end of Mercer Island. Spent about an hour trolling surface plug on one rod and Ace Hi Fly with herring teaser strip on the rigger at about 50'. Nothing doing here so we packed up and ran over to the W side of Mercer then over toward Seward park.
Trolled along Seward Park and finally picked up our first guest of the day. Keeper size but smallish for the derby at alittle under 2 pounds. This fish came on the Ace Hi Fly trolled at about 50'. Not too long after this Dawg 'Bone got a take down and brought a respectable fish at about 2.5 pounds to net.
We threw all manner of gear at them for the rest of the day with no further action. As usual, caught better fish on my pre-fish trip than during the derby...that's fishing!
Weighed-in our fish and enjoyed a dog courtesy of the PSA derby crew and hung around for the awards ceremony. Saw Salmonbarry briefly. Was cool to see a young lad of about 5 years old take home the top prize with a fat cutthroat of over 3 pounds.
Another fine event staged by the Lake Washington chapter of PSA and a nice day spent out on the water with my son!
Good luck and tight lines out there!!
