I knew that my boat was going to be gone for a week to get a top so when I saw Ron on Sunday I asked if I could go out on the kokanee “dark side” and fish with him on my next day off. He said yes so we planned it. Still fishing for kokanee...the dark side.
I didn’t look at my watch at all while I was out fishing because you have to stare at your rod tip the whole time. Then I had to get my hand and arm to work at the same time that my eye detected a bite. I was a little slow at it. But when they worked it was fish on.
We were there 2 hours and Ron said it was slow. We had lots of bites but you don’t always get them. I had trouble jerking the rod hard enough to get the hook into the mouth (nose side) of the fish.
This is so unlike trolling for them where you would never jerk on the mouth because they are hooked in the fleshy sides of the mouth. These were all caught inside the mouth towards the nose which is bone.
I had a great time and now know that my kokanee rods would not work for catching kokanee this way. I do want to do it again.
I came home with my limit and 2 being 13 inches but one was heavier than the other.

We are in a battle! Angler against fish! We need an arsenal of weapons and at my site you will find some of those different weapons. For all those who wannafish a lure come in and take a look at WannafishALure.com.

Hi Toni - We really fish the "dark side" at night, what a hoot! The hand, eye, and how hard to strike really takes some practice though. I use VERY light short rods for this one. The trolling rods would not work.
Tight lines - Alan
