We (my friend and myself) hit the water and started fishing around 9AM, a little later than we wanted to. Sun was out and wind was light...perfect fishing weather. We launched at Cowpie. As far as I could tell we were the only ones on the water.
We did not see any cruisers along the shore at Cowpie so we trolled toward the south end. Picked up fish every little while, but slower than normal. I changed up gear looking to find that special lure or fly the fish could not resist. My friend used a Blue Fox #4 orange Vibrax and that turned out to be the lure of the day.
As we fished along my friend got a good hookup that turned out to be a nice 32” male. As we celebrated the catch and how he was going to beat that fish he hooks a hog of a 34" female. We were not able to weigh her and wanted to get back in the water as soon as possible. We ended up with 29 netted fish for the day of which several were over 20”.
Not the highest volume day but with those two monsters it made it worth the trip.
