Working the lower basin early in the morning is your best shot at a big fish this time of the year. June is one of the big fish "peaks". The Thompson boys brought their dad, Tom out fishing with Jeff. 10 year old Ruger (yes, named after the gun company) caught the big fish at 11lb 10oz. Needlefish squid rigs on the downriggers and T4 Flatfish in GPLF off the outside rods caught the fish. Fishing tight to the bottom at speeds of 1.1 to 1.4 mph triggered the fish even though the early wind was tough to buck and the rain was reminiscent of the Wet...er I mean West side.
Also included in this report are the results of multi-species / kokanee trip the morning of 6/15. There were a lot of lucky fish in the mix. Best fishing was the face of Mill Bay, at depths of 27 to 67 feet and off of Minneapolis Beach in depths of 110 to 125 feet deep. We tried trolling at 1.1 mph, but accelerating up to almost 2 mph sometimes triggered bites. Mack's Lure, mini orange squiddy's baited with Firecorn, all behind a Mack's 0000 Double D dodger did the damage. We had to constantly change depths to keep our gear running just above the fish that we spotted on the sonar
Finally included were the results of a windblown evening trip on the evening of the 14th. The Frumin family came out with us with their little boys. The adults were from Uruguay and Argentina. We had a blast pounding the face of Manson Bay with Needlefish squiddy's. The bite just got better and better as the evening progressed. Depths centering around 200 feet were the bests, but we got bit at depths from 150 to 260 feet. The World Cup discussions were beyond me, but luckily Jaime was well informed. Seven month old Mateo was great to hold while Mom & Dad were working on Doubles. Unfortunately, he was napping during picture time...
What a great time to fish Chelan!
