Fished the chain lakes yesterday with Farmer_aa. We were soaking wet within 15 minutes and stayed that way all day. It rained from about 7:15am until about 4pm. I have'nt seen a steady sustained rain last that long in quite a few years. Did we let it bother us???? Yes. Did we quit fishing??? NO WAY!! It was great to find another pike angler with the passion to stay out in weather with me like that for the entire day. My fingers got so cold it felt like I had frostbite in June. They still hurt as I am typing this post. I know, whaaa haaa haaa, so enough complaining.
The Farmer had the hot hand for bass on this trip, landing 4 nice largemouth. The biggest weighing in at 5lbs and 20 1/2". It's belly looked a little empty so we thought it must have been a spawned out female. Maybe he will post a photo of it. The others were in the 2-3lb range. He also caught one fish of the targeted species for the day. PIKE. The bass wouldn't leave his baits alone.
My day ended with 10 pike and 3 bass. My largest 2 pike of the day both being 32'ers. Don't worry, the blood on the fish is not from her, it's from my finger. She thrashed in the net when I was getting a grip on her and did number on 2 fingers. ALL fish were released and swam away nicely.
The fish are now relating to the weedlines and feeding actively. Water temps were steadily around 63-66 degrees. It was nice to pick up a nice warm fish on a cold day. Hot bait for the day was the spinner bait. Most fish were in 5-8 feet of water around weedlines. On a dark day, the bright colors were the ticket.
