Thanks to Mark the Kokanee_Slayer I came home with 4 very nice kokanee from American Lake June 8th.
It was an overcast morning with the promise of clearing later in the afternoon. The lake had a small chop on the surface but the breeze wasn’t too bad for steering the boat. We had our lines in the water before 5am. It was at least a half hour before Mark got his first fish in although he had a driveby almost as quick as he got his line in the water. He was using his usual set up of Rocky Mountain squids with the Bahama Mama dodger. I used, to start, Pink splatter combo.
Glen, Cami (F24) and Perry(Bay Wolf) launched just before we did and had 2 in the boat before Mark got his in. I changed up to the Wannafish A Lure mini Squiddy Thang Pink along with a Dick Nite Chartreuse Hothead dodger after they said that they were using a Squiddy Thang Pink.
If I am not driving the boat I pay less attention as to when and where I get fish or bites. I got 4 kokanee at different places after Mark got his. I got my first 2 at 42 feet on the cable. The other 2 I had brought it up to 35. Mark had said he saw a school at 37 feet on his Hummingbird, so I raised it up and I got a hit that was a nice kokanee. I think we got all our fish by 7-7:30am then it was just dead. Everyone, up to 9am that we asked, had done about as good as us. 2.5 to 3 fish per rod in the boat. I had to work so that is why we left before Mark got more fish. I released one rainbow.
I did try several set ups but just the one produced fish. Our boat had 100 percent hook up to in boat ratio.
I thank Mark for letting me catch the most fish!!
Also, the first one I got was the largest so far this year. It was close to 16.5 inches and 1.11 pounds.
We are in a battle! Angler against fish! We need an arsenal of weapons and at my site you will find some of those different weapons. For all those who wannafish a lure come in and take a look at WannafishALure.com.
