I hadn't fished with JD39 for awhile so shot him a message to see if he wanted to join me on Lake WA for some after work trolling for cutts. He was up for it so I was able to get to the launch at 4pm and get the Tin Cup in the water and motored across to warm things up. No takers by the time JD39 called at 5pm to let me know he was ready to be picked up so quickly got things picked up ( yes and the down rigger ball) and went back to the launch to get him.
Weather was nice with just a breeze out of the north that was manageble with 2 in boat so started our troll north along the west side of Mercer. Really wanted to try out some new stuff so started with the brad's cut plug on one set up and a new hand tied spinner with a tandem hook set up, green smile blade and a lively night crawler trailing behind on the other. Set the brad's at 19 feet and the spinner at 22' at about 100 feet behind the boat and set down to catch up on things. But never had a chance because no sooner did we get settled the rod with the hand tied spinner started bouncing so JD told me to grab it, so pulled off the clip and felt some weight on the other end and it was fish on!!
As it got closer Jason grabbed the rubber net off the roof of the boat and was ready to put it to this fish and I could feel it was big but was surprised when he got close that it almost didn't fit in the net! Jason did a great net job and he hauled the beast into the boat~ what a pig! Both hooks were buried deep down so this one wasn't going back and ended up snapping the line on his sharp teeth so scrambled to grab the beads so I could remember what I tied on! lol
We went back to trolling as far as Paul Allens house and back without another bump but still rated this a 3 due to we weren't out that long, caught a beauty no boat issues!!
Look out kokanee's as I am heading to American this weekend at some point and hope to enjoy some of the successes I have been reading about lately from there!
