Went with my friend to cooper to get in one last trip in before the snows came. We decided to camp for a couple of nights to get the full experience. Fished the first evening by the outflow (cooper river). Not much going on, and sitting in the float tube was pretty bad as the water temperature was in the 30s. My friend managed to get a couple of fish just as all light was nearly gone. I got squat. The next morning was bitter cold and the edges of the lake were frozen so we waited for a couple of hours to let the lake and ourselves warm up, and hit the water hard. Fished the entire lake, the edges the middle etc. Finally went down to the end by the river again. My friend again managed to get a couple of 10-12 inch rainbows using a leach pattern and a bugger. I got squat. Took a break for dinner and went back out for the evening bite. This night started out with my buddy getting a couple more, and me actually getting some interest fishing a bunny leach, but no fish. Just as I was starting to head in due to the darkness and the cold, I got bit hard! Fish on! This was not a small fish either. Fought him for a good while to keep my leader from breaking. I got the fish to the float tube but couldn't see well enough to unhook it, so I paddled to shore so I could stand. The fish was at least 22 inches. Can't tell you the species for sure as it was now too dark though I am fairly certain it was a big brown. Let him go, satisfied, and made myself a drink. Only fish I got on the trip but what a hog. The fish count was about 6 to 1 but my one more than made up for it.
