My plan all day June 2 was to fish American on Tuesday the 3rd. Just before I went to bed I checked the weather report. I was really checking for wind. It said 6-9 mph. Well that is what it said the day I was blown off the lake so I decided to go to Clear Lake instead.
I got there close to 6am with only 3 vehicles in the lot. I was fishing just before 6:15am. Within 2 minutes of putting my gear down I had a kokanee. I was in 45 foot of water and 26 foot down using a Dick Nite Pink Splatter dodger and a Wannafish A Lure Pink Splatter Squiddy Thing.
I had several bites but couldn’t get them in for about an hour. Then I got 2 more at 24 foot in 80 foot of water. I traveled all over the lake then went back to where I got the 2nd and 3rd one dropping it down to 42 feet where I caught my 4th (he left his eyeball on the hook) one after changing my gear to a different DN dodger and my Orange is Gold lure. I saw a mark on the fish finder, deep, and looked intensely at my rod tip and yep! It starts dancing!! I got it in using an eyeball for bait. 5th and done.
I almost quit before I got those last 2 because my back hurts. I finished by 8:15am. It was cloudy with a breeze on the lake. Surface temp was 66.5 and I went between 1.5 and 1.8 MPH. The kokanee were 10.5 – 11.5 inches.
Reels are spooled with Izoreline 10 lb. test Platinum mono. The lures were made with Izoreline 15 lb. test Platinum mono.
