My brother and I decided to take out the Adorah Jane, putting out at approx. noonish from the Newport Marina. I'd read that there were some fish on the N side of I-90 so we puttered around the point and started moving W along the bridge.

We tried a red wedding ring tipped with worm behind a sling blade and the same setup in orange with some spinners behind the sling blade. We got the one 20" cutt on the rig without extra spinners. In fact I didn't realize we had the fish until I decided to check the rig and felt the tug... not sure if he was already on or hit it when I picked it up!

We ended up settling for the one and heading for home! There was a mess going W on the bridge and the Coast Guard came over with their lights on toward us. I made the universal gesture for "do I really have to pull my lines up?", but they came alongside and just asked us to move further away from the bridge. Nice guys... asked us if we'd had any luck!

We saw a lot of fish in the water in the 20-30 ft. range. Tight lines!

Thanks for the report Ferret. That fish was probably swimming with your troll. That happens a lot with the fish I catch in Sammamish. Did you try fishing around the area where there always seems to be seagulls resting and picking about 75 yards off the North side of the bridge and closer to the West shore? I see birds pick all the time right there. I was wondering if there was some sort of structure below that creates bug life or bait to hang around there? I've caught a lot of trout around that area also.

Hey Steelhead... I've seen those birds in that spot too, when I drive to work over the bridge. We didn't get to that spot because that's where the Coast Guard was sitting and after they asked us to go further N we made a big loop back to the E side of the bridge. I'll check it out next time though. I think you're right that the fish was swimming with our troll... he didn't have much fight after I realized he was on!
