Somehow I forgot to charge my battery, so we didn't leave the house until 12:30 pm. Another neighbor boy (14 yo) was chomping at the bit so I let him choose from among a few lakes. Panther was it. He was particularly excited because the plan was to focus on large mouth bass and not the usual, stocker rainbows.
The good news is that the lake is teaming with them. The not so good news is that they were all in the 4" - 5" range! Cute? Yes, as 8 - 12 young bass would chase everything we threw at them. But also a bit disturbing, as they'd open their mouths wide enough to sometimes get all three barbs of the treble hooks in their mouths. We moved and moved and moved to try to find where the bigger ones were, but never found that spot.
We didn't cover all the shoreline, but more than half, and it all seemed to be nursery. Maybe next year will be a winner for bass. So far, no go.
We also took a couple breaks for rainbows and were not disappointed. Trolling Wooly Buggers, tipped with a pink Gulp maggot got em every time. From total overcast to much blue, the day just got nicer, with little wind and no rain. Panther's always a great go-to lake.
