Had a great couple of days exploring this little lake tucked up into the hills North of the town of Manson. My brother-in-law and I hit the upper lake first on Saturday morning but were skunked after an hour and decided to check out the lower lake with our time remaining. Boy am I glad we did! We were in a time crunch and only had about 20 minutes to fish the lower lake, but I was able to bring 3 fish to the tube and had several others on. The first fish was a solid 14" Brown that fought like a champ. Even took out some line when it went for a run. The other 2 were around the 12" mark.
We had to quickly pack up but decided we would come back when we had more time. Luckily we made it back on Sunday evening for the late bite. Not more than five after getting our lines in the water and we were both hooking up again. This time the fish were consistently in the 12" range. Not monsters by any means, but it was still a fun way to spend the last hours of daylight. We were both fishing with Olive Green Wooly Buggers with full sinking lines. In total we brought about 10 fish to the tube, released them all, and had another 5 or 6 that broke off. Great action!
Since it was memorial day weekend, there was quite a number of knuckleheads camping in the area blasting rap music, so that distracted us a bit, but the fishing was good enough to inspire us to come back again and again. We will definitely be checking out this lake more since I've heard there are Browns in the 20" range to be found.
Good luck out there!
