Well, it has been quiet on the board for reports on kokanne for American lake and others close by?? Anyway I got a chance to hit the lake and try my luck. I had order up some lures from Toni at wana fish a lure and got them ready to go. Got to the lake about 1:00 pm due to alot of traffic that I expected. Headed over to the north side of Silcox island and started fishing. I was on the DR at 30 ft with two poles split in depth. I got on bite after ten minutes but it was gone just a fast. The weather was raining and windy hard to keep the boat going stright let alone find the fish. I trolled my normal areas that produce the most fish for me and started marking fish right away. After a few passes with no bites I switched up the dodger and lure. After that is fish on, got it right up to the boat and it took one look at me and waved by by.....gone. Nice size koke. Reset and the sun came out for a quick minute. Made a wide turn and the pole starts the dance and I pick it up and nice fish head shaking and I am excited get it up to the boat and a quick dip of the net and presto one rainbow in the boat. The wife has been asking for me to bring at least one home so making her happy was on the list. I reset and the wind is just blowing hard white caps and all. The guys from the city were out on the water with divers they were checking the area where I lost my DR ball last week and a few other areas around the lake so that was nice to see. Not really sure what they were doing but they were out there. Anyway back to fishing. I kept at it and the pole starts the dance and I pull it out of the clip and fish on, take my time and another in the boat rainbow. Reset and made a few more passes and in a matter of three hours I had five nice trout in the boat all rainbows so the wife will be happy. I was using the pink splatter back dodger with Toni's Squiddy thang white-pink caught the most the other was a green gold tire tracks dodger with Toni's Squiddy thang pink. All in all rough time on the water but the rainbows were bitting, they are sitting in brine right now and as soon as the boston butt is done in the smoker they fish will be next, they will make for a great feast this weekend for the family and that what its all about!!
Happy Memorial Day to everyone and a BIG THANK YOU to all our VET's as freedom is never free!
