So all excited with my new to me fishing pole and larger fishing net with the rubber net, bought three poles from a guy who built them down south towards OnAlaska.
Anyway got the lake normal time for me 12:45 pm and launched the boat and headed off to the middle accross from the WDFW launch and started fishing. Headed north had both poles in the water and ten minutes in fish on took it nice and slow and I can see it very nice fish and it charges the boat and passes my lure up and pooff...gone.. Oh the let down. Reset and started again heading back and forth no bites. Took of and headed toward the north side of island in my normal spot and five minutes in fish on pulls the line free and starts jumping all over the place and gone....thats two. So I reset and well gotta try something different if I am going to get these fish in the boat so 25 min later pole starts dancing so I bump the speed up a bit and pull the release and fish on took my time and fish is doing what is should and presto on fish in the new net!!! Score.... trolled around somemore and no takers so I switch up the lures and the happy dance starts nice fat hog take my time and its fighting hard but staying in the water get it 10 feet fromthe boat and jumps and spits the hooks the worse part is its just sitting on the surface flopping around I tried so hard to spin the boat around and net it but I was not fast enough and he recovered and took off. Took my time spent my time going back and forth marking fish a bit deeper so I drop the ball down and five minutes goes by and fish on and it stuck so two fish in the cooler its looking a great day! oh but wait.....theres more.

Reset the lines and I now have both poles with the same set up and getting hit on both. I hook another fish and its heavy and shaking his head back and forth staying deep take my time and then he decideds to start jumping and fish off...reset again and I figure I will make one last pass my honey hole. I start in and all of a sudden both my poles start bending and I am like what the heck....and well my DR catches something and its not moving I manage to get one pole free and get it up and out of the way. I am about 35 feet away from a 5 MPH thing so I must be caught on that?? Not really sure I was no where close to it, I spent 15 min trying to pull free then I try to free my pole and no luck so I let the bail out set it in the DR. I try to pull it up by hand and no luck now I getting mad so I am thinking well I guess I can cut the wire then the ball will drop to the bottom and I can free my pole from the line. I put some slack in the DR cable and cut it then I get hit in the head with my pole as it snaps in two, I grab it really quick before it goes to the bottom new reel and all. I tried pulling so hard I cut my hands finally I cut the line with the cutters and save my reel. Oh the joy lost the ball, the rubber snap that attaches to the ball and then my line for the auto stop to work, two scotty realeases and one dodger with my lure from Toni that was a real fish getter...oh at this point my blood is boiling because right before I cut the line my called my phone three times and finally I answered and said I can't talk and put the phone down and not thinking to release the reel drag I cut the line and well.......so two fish to go home I figure they are about 75.00 buck each. Thats fishing. so all in all I managed to hook a total of eight fish and came home with two. They were bitting just not sticking I think I know why so I will make some adjustment in the gear and try again. Good luck guys and tight lines and oh if you have a DR on board don't forget to make sure you have a very good set of Dikes as you just never know when you will need them. Sorry so long I did cut some fish out of the story.... lol.

All in all I came home safe with a couple of fish for the family so I am happy the rest well.....I was going to spend that money somewhere right life is to short enjoy every minute!! Eric

I feel your pain Eric. I have a spot I love to salmon fish on the Columbia and the only problem is it's "grabby". I've lost a lot of gear over the years and caught some great fish. Last year just decided to stay away from the "Grabbers". Man it's fun spending money on tackle!

If you lost your gear near the area you marked as a hotspot, I lost some gear there on Sunday morning too. Trolling along in 55-60 feet of water with 30 or 35 feet of cable out and didn't graph anything unusual but my line got hung-up. Didn't lose the DR ball but did lose a flasher and terminal tackle (along with a little bit of my patience).

I wonder if there's an old buoy cable left hanging over there somewhere. It's got to be covered with tackle!

Glad you at least got some fish for your trouble...I ended-up with the skunkeroo on Sunday!

Thanks guys its a bummer but I have extra for that oh crap moment so all good. Now to find some time in the next few days to get back out for the weekend boaters come out and play and make the lake a head ache. I have been fishing deeper then I ever have and still fising my normal spots and I think this is what cause me over confidence it what I was doing and where I was going, lesson learned. Fish Dawg, pink and pink tipped with corn has got them bitting for me, both fish where female full of eggs.
